My shifter

I had a question regarding my 1977 F150 with a 351 modified I was wondering why my truck won't shift into first, it is an automatic but I can't manually put it into first gear it will only going into second why is this?

Prolly cuz your shift linkages needs to be adjusted.

Are you saying the shifter will not go down into first gear or the transmission doesn't respond in first gear?

That's correct I cannot manually switch the shifter down in the first gear

If you can put the shift lever in Drive, and the transmission goes through all the forward gears with no problems, it's probably just an adjustment of the linkage

The linkage doesn't need to be far out for the shift lever to not align correctly. When you're in Park or Drive, does the indicator line up?
