Need transmission

We are having trouble finding a used transmission for a 1990 F150 XLT Lariat, 4x4, 302, v8, 4 speed manual with OD (5 speed). The one in there is a mazda (we think) Any suggestions?

What you have there is a Mazda M5(5-speed) manual transmission and it was used in all 1/2 ton Ford trucks behind the 4.9, 5.0 and 5.8 engines which share the same bellhousing bolt pattern so it shouldn't be that hard to find, you will need a 4x4 version however as the 2wd version cannot be easily converted.

If you find a used one make sure it's very dry and clean on the outside. These trannys have a lot of exterior plugs and gaskets that go bad and cause leaks. The chances of you frying seals and bearings because you forgot to top up the ATF every 1,000 miles (PITA!) goes up if there is any oil on the outside. More importantly, the tranny is probably already damaged by PO if it leaks.
