Straight 6 engine rattle
I have a 1994 Ford F-150. When it is turned upon, it makes a rattling noise that sounds like its coming from the alternator or power steering pump. I'm not sure, since I don't know a whole lot about vehicles. Any suggestions? The rattling starts as soon as the vehicle is turned on, but is very consistent throughout the whole time the vehicle is operating.

We're gonna need a bit more info,is it an auto. or manual tranny. I would start it up and look under the hood and listen to help isolate the sound.Sometimes a broomstick can be used to listen in specific areas but be careful of the belts and pulleys.

One other thing right in the same area is the water pump, it could be a bearing in it going out.. I would pull the belt off and spin the pulleys by hand (engine off of course) and see which one felt rough or made a noise...
