I have a 1994 Ford F-150. When it is turned upon, it makes a rattling noise that sounds like its coming from the alternator or power steering pump. I'm not sure, since I don't know a whole lot about vehicles. Any suggestions? The rattling starts as soon as the vehicle is turned on, but is very consistent throughout the whole time the vehicle is operating.
The source of a noise is nearly impossible to diagnose over the internet. It could be any number of things. Raise the hood, start it up and see if you can determine the source and/or have someone familiar with vehicles help with that in person.
One way to tell if it is the alternator or PS pump would be to remove the Serpentine belt and start it. If the rattle remains it is in the engine itself, also once the belt is off try spinning the alternator, waterpump, ps pump etc.
