78 Bronco Top VS 80 to Newer difference?

I found a smokin deal on a soft top for my 77 FSB but it came off a 86. I think the 78/79 FSB tops are different. Anybody know for sure? Should I go see if it fits? Its canvas so it may stretch.

That's funny... I have been thinking about this for the last week.... Now here's a picture of almost what I had in mind!

My thought, if I had the $$$, was to mate a extended cab on a standard 4X4 frame. Keeping the shorter wheel base and merging a Bronco rear body half.

It would look like 84td's pic but 2 door and slightly shorter wheel base!

If it's been done? Any other pics? Thanks for the post!

I've thought about that a bunch too. I have a thread on it looking for pics, but the one of the red-ish truck posted was the only one I could find.

As for the original topic on this thread - I THINK they are the same but not 100% sure as I haven't tried swapping them before. I seem to remember a buddy who does a lot of broncos telling me they do swap though.

No Chase, the tops are way different and so are the soft tops. It would take a seamstress to make it fit.

Late model hardtop on 78-79 body style. You can get an idea from this as to what a soft top would look like.

Nice looking 4 door Bronco.

Yea it looks like it may have some wrinkles in it. Its one that runs at a 30* from the back to the tail so I may just go see how it looks. So it looks to me the angle on the 78/79 is steeper than the later.

Good to know & glad somebody knew for sure. Now I've seen a pic & will hopefully remember in the future that they are NOT the same.
