I know there have been many discussions of CPS sensors in the past but mines not questioning which of these things is best but where can I buy a black one.... everywhere I go all of the international new and improved black sensors are on back order.
I do not believe the "Original" Black CPS's are available any longer, many that were for sale were new "old" stock. Just get the latest Dark Grey replacements if you are in need of a spare.
Thanks Timmyboy!! wonder why there are different part numbers though? seems to be a definate separation between the '94-'96 and the '97-'03 units...
Was the 7.3 in '94 indeed a PowerStroke, turbo engine like ours? I have no real experiance with those......
I believe the IH part # for the 94-96 (97??) CPS sensors was 1821720C99. They were black, not grey, and I had heard of guys running them in 99-03 trucks with no problems.
Once when I was researching the CPS I found a thread that showed the location of it and method of replacement; I've done several searches and I cannot seem to find it now.
My original has just failed at 110,000 mi. I can have Ford change it out but this particular dealership had my mom freaked out that her entire front end required replacement. I have no trust in this facility and would rather pay out of pocket to replace it myself. Thank you so much for the direction. I'll give reps if this bloody thing will permit
I wound up just buying the grey one from Ford; 20 Min. and it was in thanks to your link to Guzzle's page. I could have Ford replace it but after experiencing my mom's horror story with my nearest dealership I chose to do it myself.
The story:
Mom took her 1995 Ford Crown Vic to South Bay Ford. They told her that basically her entire front end needed replacing. She would barely drive her car for the next week. I took the car to a reputable alignment shop to have the front-end alignment done and there were no problems. I asked if everything was okay and specifically about upper control arm bushings, I was told everything was fine.
These guys are preying on gullable old women; I hardly trust them with my rig.
