BLACK CPS

Has anyone bought this / tried it out...The seller just got back to me, confirming its a black cps. Looking at the "body' the sensor, sure looks itentical to the IH ones, that were being sold. Wood-n-things did a write-up about the black, grey, blue..etc, and 1 thing he noticed was the base of sensor being bigger on the black cps then the rest of them...

The price is certainly right. If it was really made by Delphi, then color is no indicator of 'goodness', I'd think.

Bought me a black CPS from a fleabay seller last year. Was told it was NOS. It came shipped in a generic box and went back in to that box and then in to the trash two months later when it failed.

I think true black CPSs are like barn find muscle cars; they might be out there, but the ones that have them aren't looking to sell them.

I haven't been around here in a while so my brain is a bit foggy but just an observation:
listed the CPS for model years 99 thru 2004... Isn't 03 the last year for the 7.3?

In the Ford Super Dutys, yes. I don't know, but maybe International continued to produce and install 7.3s into the 04 model year in other platforms?

Even though it is black, it is aftermarket. The only good black ones were the OEM ones.

"Isn't 03 the last year for the 7.3?"

The 7.3 was indeed offered abroad for many more years.

I personally own an original black CPS from clay back in the day, a ford grey and an aftermarket Borg Warner. Now I personally can not tell much difference between the three. The BW never failed on me not even in the rain. But I'm lucky. I do not have an AE to check them against each other but my seat-of-the-pants ometer doesn't register any difference.

I wouldn't put any faith in Delphi anything. But a black cps will have to be from a trusted source or still wrapped in Ford packaging.

I'll sell mine. What's the going rate on eBay? $300? A gold bar will also be fine. Your first born will do in a pinch.

HA! Better put that thing in a safe deposit box.

I'm content with the grey one as it's all I've ever known. Maybe one day the golden challis will be mine.

Can you imagine how many black ones went in to dumpsters back when that recall first came out? If only those poor Ford techs knew then what they know now. They could all be driving new Fords with our black CPS dollars.
