I need a clutch I was woundering what ya'll are using, I have a 99 F-350 with the 7.3 Six speed, four wheel drive, crew long box. I do alot of towing and town driving. Any help would be great and thanks for ur help.
I do have manual with clutch, but I drove my truck only for 100,000 miles since I bought it and it is all good.
I used a good gears suppliers from Las Vegas for my differential. They list lot of stuff on ebay. Not only they decoded my differential when local shops failed, but delivered the best gears on the planet overnight for no extra charge.
I haven't replaced mine but helped a buddy put a Valair clutch in his 2003 Power Stroke. He had exploded a South Bend. It was a 600HP 13" ceramic disk. They're pretty grabby especially once they start heating up. We put everything in - new flywheel, pilot bearing, disk, pressure plate. He kept his stock slave but it had noticeably higher pedal force. It's a pretty straightforward job if you have a lowboy tranny jack. Hardest part was getting to some of the bolts on top of the bellhousing area. Make sure to remove the T-case first.
It sounds like a stock OEM replacement would suit you? Did you look at them? What kind of money are you trying to spend? Going to replace the entire package, just the disk, new slave cylinder, etc? There's a lot to know before somebody can offer a recommendation.
I have been looking at clutch's, just though I would ask here and see what everyone is using. I also under stand it's the holidays but when over 100 people look and don't say anything it's kind of fustrating.
I am planning on replacing everything, money wise I don't know if it's better to spend extra now rather than later then I will. Thank you all for awnsering me and hope I didn't affend to many of ya'll.
Don't be frustrated by it, the majority of superduty's are auto's, us handshaker guy's are in the minority but there are quite a few of us . Also like you stated it is the holiday's and many are out and about. As far as that many people viewing your thread and not answering we have a huge amount of people on here last time I looked it was over 600,000 registered user's ,many very knowledgeable and I'm very thankful that the people that answer have something useful to say. Let us know what you decide on before you buy and we can give you our opinions or experience with that clutch set up. Next time post in the 7.3 diesel forum you would probably get more response there on something like this .
I did a quick check at Summit Racing and you can spend from ~$350 on up. Advance Auto is running a 15% off sale online right now so you could check there too.
My personal preference for a better-than-stock replacement would be a Hays Super Truck ($510). They're headquartered in my neck of the woods and I've bought their clutches and clutch parts before without any issues. They're a quality product.
Make sure you replace the pilot bearing! Every one I've seen was shot. A buddy with an '01 F350 with the 7.3L just had one go bad and it wore out the input shaft - not an inexpensive fix.
