Just bought a 2002 7.3 with 165k and did all the usual intake and tuner things. Im not sure if this was a problem before as i usually drive the truck pretty easy but i did happen to get in it a few times here in the past couple days and have a few questions and concerns with this automatic. When WOT the trans just holds the motor to around 3100 rpms in between shifts, and it almost feels like when it shifts it comes out of the lower gear and it takes like 2-3 seconds before it wants to shift into the higher gear. Its like it does not want to shift, and then when it does it wants to what i think is between gears between shifts? Also when cruising on the interstate at like 70mph it wants to upshift and just rev its guts out. But if your like 75% into the throttle it shifts fine. Trans fliud is fresh. What yall think?

The transmission behavior is controlled by the chip. Hot or cooked transmission fluid has no oomph and things will slip, and I've cooked mine in minutes with just the right conditions. The 4R100 can burn up and may need the guts replaced by JW, BTS, or get a HD4R100.
What chip is it?
Does your fluid look like cherry juice or apple juice? Does it smell oily, or "burny"? Is it just the last shift, or do other shifts do weird things?
I think your additional horsepower added to an un-modified trans has caused some clutches to slip badly and over-heat the fluid and probably the steels.
The trans is on borrowed time if continuing to handle that amount of torque.
