Hi all I need some advice, I am running 2005 PSD, with about 29,000 miles, on the clock. I have been noticing some hesitating or slippage when it shifts between 2nd and 3rd. it doesn’t happen all the time and it doesn’t seem to make any difference how much foot I but into it. I thought I read some time ago that this is common with the ford trans. has anyone experienced this, and will a tuner solve this problem

I have the same issue, it has done this slip between 2-3 since new. I have a 2005, too. I have heard the SCT tuner helps tighten the shift poits but I have not installed one, yet.
It sounds like what you are describing is known as "shift flare". A brief spike in rpm's when up-shifting, most common with shifts 2-3 or 3-4. I have a slight flare between 3-4 which has been there since new with no change in 45k miles. Some FTE members have reported firmer shifts with certain programers/tuners.
i have an 05 6.0 and have noticed the exact same thing, so faint that i thought it was just my imagination, i have 75k on truck and just flush tranny for first time and have had no other problems.
My 06 did the same thing. I drove me nuts. Every time it did it I would cringe thinking that my transmission was on its way out. A phone call to Spartan Diesel Technology for an SCT X3 took care of it and I picked up 1.5 MPG to boot. My truck shifts awesome now. THANKS Matt.
