I ended up getting the Phoenix 6 position tuner from power hungry performance and i couldnt be happier. my truck has never moved this fast in its life and i'm getting 20mpg just driving around in my 80hp tune. i must say that it is the best tune ever because its not to fast or too slow its just right!
Please post up after you calculate the MPG, I have not really noticed a different MPG wise on my DP Tuner. I am completely happy with the power and tow, the only thing I noticed is that the only two times I hauled a camper, I got a flashing OD light on my shifter. I have no way to to pull codes, so I don't know what is going on. This never happened before I got the tuner.
I need to post a correction to my last post, an on the fly tuner makes power by fooling the sensors, which does increase icp, but actually also changes many other settings as well.
Just a quick note of clarification, there is a distinct difference between on the fly tuners and programmers. Programmers actually reflash the PCM changing the settings in your computer. An on the fly tuner, at least for the 7.3l adjusts your injector oil pressure. Oh, and with my 7.3l excursion with edge juice with attitude, AFE stage two intake, and 4 inch exhaust I get over twenty four while cruising at 65.
Incorrect...
Your fancy edge unit does flash the PCM with a new program, but your little juice dongle is nothing more then a fancy ICP fooler...
A Chip or "on the fly tuner" as you call them COMPLETLY replaces the PCM programing, the truck is NOT running on the PCM anymore, but on the chip.
It does not fool anything.

Most of us do not run an off the shelf tuner. The custom tunes that many including myself have listed will write tunes for your truck and any mods you may have done. That way you get the most for your money. They also seem to be a little easier on the transmission.
Help me understand the difference between these:
PHP Phoenix
PHP FU (comparable to an F5?)
PHP FU2 (comparable to an F6?)
Ok, looks like the Phoenix doesn't come with the burner...
Phoenix is standard(Stockish) calibrations and no burner.
FU is still the phoenix chip with burner, and free updates and access to all "stockish" calibrations
The FU2 is for more modified trucks, using bigger injectors, turbos, etc. Still uses the phoenix chip, burner, but access to modified "custom" calibrations.
