Thanks.
So for $180 ($30 ea) more for the FU2 you get the custom tunes. Is it unlimited files if you buy it upfront instead of each tune separately? Bigger turbo is the only thing I have that falls under its category...

The Phoenix can be ordered with six standard calibrations (what your truck would take because a "bigger turbo" IS NOT going to need (or benefit from) more expensive tuning) or six "custom" calibrations for injector changes or aftermarket transmission parts.

The FU comes with a chip programmer and a Phoenix chip. When using the PhoenixFlash software, you will have access to the PHP server and the standard calibrations that are available for your truck. You can remove and reprogram the Phoenix chip at any time with any six calibrations in any order.

The FU2 comes with six calibrations that have been written for the changes made to your truck. You can order more calibrations if you desire at any time and like the FU, you can reprogram the chip whenever you want.

Your truck would fall under the FU or standard Phoenix calibrations.

This is my first diesel, and my first truck tbh.
I've been reading some to find out what easier performance mods I can do without tearing into the engine.
It seems a tuner and dpf delete are the most recommended, along with intake and exhaust.
I've settled on MBRP dual stacks (leaning toward 8"), but am not sure where to start on intake or tuners. I've considered a snorkel, but am thinking I might be tall enough to just go CAI, since I don't do the hardcore mudding I used to do in my jeep.
I think I'd like a tuner with a monitor eventually, but would be ok with a switch for now. Is there a 7.3 tuner with a DPF off switch?
Is it true I can't do a DPF delete until after I have a tuner? That's what the local truck mod shop told me.
So everybody shoot their ideas my way so I can do this right and make my truck the best it can be.
Thanks!

7.3's don't have dpf's or any of those emission devices like the newer diesels.

I hope your local "truck mod shop" was thinking that you had a newer diesel and not talking about a 7.3. Otherwise, I would run FAR AWAY from that shop.

Make sure your truck is 100% before doing any upgraded mods to it.

Gauges, intake, exhaust, tuner is pretty basic. Gauges first though.

I won't take advice from them any longer.
That's why I like forums better. It's made up of people who have experience with these vehicles, and often own a very similar one.
Truck is 100%.
Only thing I had to chase down was an oil leak, which was due to the filter not being fully tightened.
Everything else is great.
Only 137k on vehicle.

I just bought the superchips vivid. I wanted to try something that not everyone already has. This thing is fantastic there are a couple downside issues but the upside issues far outweigh those. Good side first. +200ft/lbs tq. +170hp. You can flash then remove so it doesn't get stolen or leave it in and use the screen for information of your choice. Connects to internet for updates without relying on secondary computer. You can take the screen with you and use the same way you would an ipad (just not as big or cool looking). Fuel economy is up for sure unfortunately I can't give you exact measurements yet (hoinh road tripping over the holidays better idea after that. There are all kinds of cool things you can do that are very handy like correct your speedo to tire size. Integrated scan tool that actually works very well. There are more good things about it but I'm on my phone and getting tired of typing. So the bad things ice noticed- it takes about 15 minutes to reprogram every time you want to change your tune. The touch screen on the archos unit seems oldschool and I find myself selecting items I did not intend to (fat thumb fingers do that with most touch screens you might have better luck) once its programs a vehichle it is locked to that vehichle. Um... Can't really think of any other bad side things. Oh there is only 8Gigs of memory on the archos so downloading movies is kind of pointless but that's still plenty of room for your favorite road tunes and a few games for your pasengers to play.

If I were to get a tuner with a monitor, this would be the one I would get:

INFINITY-DX Touch Screen 7.3L NOW AVAILABLE (Order today thru Dec. 31st, 2012 and get the introductory price of $549.00) - Featured Products

I run DP's tunes and like them, but would like to try other tuner's eventually.

Usually, other company's like bullydog, edge, etc run "off the shelf" tunes. I bought my truck with a bullydog and after reading about a custom tuner, I made the switch and will never look back. My DP tuner put the bullydog to shame.

thx alot guys!

Im really late as everyone has you covered but to add my .02 cents, I have had a BullyDog power pup " from feb 06 and sold it in aug 06" i didn't like it. Hated the power it added and shifting.

Then got the EDGE Juice w/attitude monitor. " Got it Aug of 06 through 09" Shift on the fly and few adj in shifting and fueling. Monotered egts boost rpm etc. It did ok for power, shift on the fly, plugged in to a bunch of sensors under the hood, module sat under the hood also with a in cab monitor. The module kept getting hot under the hood and burning up. I went through 2 monitors and 3 modules. Edge replaced all under warranty. Finally i told them there product was junk and i wanted my money back or a better tuner/chip /programmer.

They sent a Edge evolution programmer in 09 in replacement of the 3rd juice module and monitor. The evo is the monitor and plugs into the obdII port. Has 16 monitoring displays tft, boost, baro pressure, air intake temp, egt probe, rpm, mph, eot, ect, and more. Its also a code reader. Has a 60e hp, 80 tow hp and 100 peformance hp tunes. You can also customize the program to adjust fuel shift points and firmness, speed limiter, engine idle and so on for each tune you choose. All in all i kept it in 80 and adjusted the tranny correctly and fueling. I have been running it since 09 till last friday. Its rough on the tranny, power is not that great in any level. It shifted really strange locking the t/c and shifting into od at the same time no matter what i adjusted. It was ok i did like the Digital monitor in the cab displaying 4 of 16 pids also having a code reader also.

So Thursday i got my Custom DP Tuner f6 with gauge switcher and all i can say is ....... WOW what a freakin difference. I absoutly love it. I got stk, high idle 1200rpm, 60t, 80t, 60e, 80e, 120race, and Lope idle. Its like driving a entirely different truck. Power curves are awesome in every level. Tranny shifts perfect in eco, and tow like it should for each application. T/c lock up then the od shift. All i can say is its the best one I've had so far. I saved up some coin for it since i first herd about DP upon joining FTE . All this info is based upon my experience. Im sure there are others out there that swear by other tuners and programmers, ts, php etc. But its expensive to try them all. But i can say I'm EXTREMELY pleased with my DP. Just Do your research and find what fits your application. And don't by cookie cutter programmers, chips or tuners. GO CUSTOM !!!! you won't regret it. Good LUCK
