I have two maintenance free Pacific Power batteries. They were installed 6 years ago when I purchased the truck when it had 27k on it. It now has
130k. I am not having any battery problems, truck starts fine. When should I think about changing them?
A inexpensive volt meter gauge helps out too, for impending problems that is. My stock Motorcrafts lasted me 6 years then as my batts. started to go they took out my alt.
Just replaced mine Saturday. One had gone bad. Volt meter was showing 12.xxx, and engine was starting at temps in the low 30.s, but it was turning over slow and dying fast.
My batteries were dated 04/07.
I guess what I am wanting to say, is have them load tested, and be sure and unhook one of them and test seperatly. It sure made a difference in cranking and starting.
If your rig is jumping to life in the morning, I doubt you'd even ask. If you're asking the question because something happened or the cranking sounds wimpy, new batteries are in order.
Get a plug in the dash volt meter (Wallyworld 15.00). it will tell you the starting voltage, then the draw down when the GPR stars up and when started the voltage coming out of the Alternator. It takes a lot of worries on what is going on in the voltage system.
