Automatic gear shifter
I have a F250 1971 camper special all stock. I noticed that as I shift from gear to gear (reverse, drive, neutral) the shifter appears to have a little play on it. I have to double check by stepping on the gas a little bit as the gear indicator at times lands in the middle of two gears not telling me for sure what gear I am in. I also get a little "clank" when I shift into some gears, I guess that would be expected on an old car. Now, is this alsomething that could easily be adjusted or does that mean that I need to rebuild the tranny already?
The manual control lever on the trans has another bushing in it. The shift rod connects to this lever, then to the steering column selector lever.
If one or both of these bushings are cracked (or are missing), this will cause play in the shift lever.
Both bushings are the same and are available from Ford for less than 5 bucks each.
