jeremy, the 92 up system is a cable from the column to the outer lever on the E4OD. Before you try adjusting it, if the problem just started, I would look at the column itself, the shifter is a hollow aluminum casting and is prone to split making the entire shifter flop around. I had a 1990 Lincoln Town Car and it did the same thing, couldn't get it in park. The adjustment is on the transmission end of the cable housing. There is a locking piece in the sleeve the cable goes through. You have to pull that most of the way out and with the shifter in park, push the cable casing far enough back to get the transmission into park.
yep i was thinking that but i have been working so i dont have time to look right now i just shift the trans by hand on the side of it what a pain tho lol how hard is that fix?
You have to remove the column plastic trim covers which means taking out the ignition cylinder and removing the tilt lever if you have the tilt wheel. You'll need to take the bottom dash panel off and loosen the column mount bolts as far as you can without actually removing it. Once that is done you can reach most of the shift tube. If it is broken you will probably have to remove the column to replace it, but I was able to do it in the car on the Lincoln. You have to be able to get the cable inner end off the lever at the lower end and reach all four of the retaining bolts (Torx head) for the tube. If you get a new one from Ford, you'll need to change all the parts over from the bad one.
It's a whole lot easier than changing the shift tube on the older columns. For those the whole thing had to come out and stripped. I have done a few of them, I will take the later setup any day.
