I couldn't care less about the application, and calling them "just truck headers" is extremely odd.
How about everyone just half *** their products for these trucks then, because hey it's going on a truck. What happened to having some amount of pride in their work? I wouldn't even expect that low of quality if I had bought those for $100 at Harbor Freight.
If it really bothers you, and you are a "certified" welder, keep in mind that maddog will ship you these unwelded so you can do it yourself. I believe that option was $150 less.
Well that sounds like a real good deal. I'll have to contact them and see about that. Then I can just tig weld it and be done with it. Just to clarify, no I wasn't expecting tig welds on the ones shown.
Just a truck header ? I see plenty of nice trucks at shows and fenderwell style headers are magnets. They draw people right in, always the first thing they look at on a truck.
I am always out looking for nice products that work well. I prefer function over form but there are limitations.
What I would be more concerned about aver the lack of good beads was his response.
Yes there will always be people who you can not please but if you are seeing a majority of onlookers saying negative things about a product you do not complain about your treatment you ask questions and find a way to better your product and create more customers.
Guys $500 ain't bad for those headers! Seems like they are a heavy gauge good quality header. Also as a welder/fabricator myself those welds are not the best but if they make a proper seal and get the job done who cares. If I thought there was an issue I'd run a quick pass over them with maybe some .030 hard wire.
I'm looking into making stainless 304 headers for the spring on my 428 and I know I'm going to spend about $500 just for the stainless merge collectors. I'd be around the $1000-$1200 mark plus the time of building along with Pcv pipe mockup header.
I'm almost considering buying these to save the grief.
Can anyone confirm the unwelded kit and cost. For the $150 or so knocked off that's a steal!
hell id buy em and weld em up myself! the flange looks good and thick so i dought youd have to worry about em warping .....just my .02 cents but hey i dont have a dog in this fight i run iron manifolds ya dont hear about people talking about shody welds on those do ya?
Ordered a set.
Mark said my model would be back in production a couple weeks from now.
I don't care, not in a hurry. I'll have them coated when I get them. So if they need clean up, no big deal.
I'll take some pics also to compare to grinners'.
I have 3 FE engs and love them so I will have to give this guy a call since I have to replace the exhaust on all 3 of my trucks. Thanks for the info Mark
I hate to dig up a 5 year old thread, but my boy wants headers on his 69 (2 wheel drive) the frames are more narrow than the dents. I have long tubes on my 69 and don't really like them so close to the starter. I also haven't seen anyone run shorty headers like for a mustang or galaxie in these trucks.
Post up picks of your fender headers.
Chris here is my thread where it starts showing the headers and what I had to do to make them fit.
Remember I have a half ton short box so the fit is quite a bit different on a 3/4 ton long bed and different again on 250 4 wheel drive.
If I remember correctly Grinner had no problems at all where I had to do a lot of fab to make them fit.
That being said, I love 'em. Gives me all kinds of room to work under there.
Also passenger side rubs when cranked all the way. Keep telling myself I'm going to fix it but it obviously doesn't bug me as it's years old. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...did-it-47.html
