Spark issue

Well I've been doing a thread about my trucks resteration/customization and I just got my new engine in. So here's my problem.

I installed the engine and and everything hooked up to start it. But I left the front acceriores off until it starts. So alternator isn't bolted to the engine but is still hooked to the wiring. I cleaned my grounds the one at the block, at the back of the intake manifold to the firewall then I have one at the frame that I grounded to the timing cover. The engine turns over but no spark. So I've been trouble shooting and I hooked a test light to the tach on the coil and then to the engine block. When I turn it over it stays lit. What should I do now?

If the light stays ON, then the coil is not getting switched. What kind of ignition system is this? That will guide the next steps.

It's the duraspark. I figured out what the problem was. The three wires for the dizzy were messed up the ground on that had come lose from the connector. So I got that fixed and I now have spark. But I have a new issue. I got the spark and as I turn it over it's not firing. My distributor was 180 degrees out but I got that fixed so now while I'm cranking I'll get a pop through the carb every so often the I would retard it a little to get it to start but its not starting. It is getting fuel.
