Last weekend I put on a new carb/intake on it and all that seems great, runs alot stronger. But it just quit running. No spark. Today I put a new coil, ignition module and distributor in it. It fired right up. No hesitation and ran GREAT!! Then 15 seconds later it died . No spark. We retraced our steps everything is put together right and its getting fuel. The engine just cranks but wont spark. Put a spark plug in the coil wire against block and no spark. Where do I start? All the wires LOOK ok but electrical is my weak point lol. I'm just hoping its something I can fix myself as I just sunk a lot of $$ into the Edelbrock 4 barrel and intake manifold. Thanks in advance for your input!!
I had the same problem with my 1977 f250. I pulled out the ford manual and it told me to check the wires, including from the distributor to the coil, to ignition module all the way to the ignition switch. With old trucks they usually rott out. All my wires worked fine. It turned out that somehow my timing was off on my distributor. The manual said that if my timing was off it could be because of crossed wires.
What I did was check every single wire in my ignition system and traced the problem to the distributor. Yes. its time consuming and nobody likes electrical work but it was my only way to trace the problem. I fixed the timing and it runs like a champ. I hope this helps.
Well we got er figured out.....a ground wire from the coil was broken, she runs like a champ now. That new carb/intake makes SO MUCH difference its unbelievable my truck actually has some power now!! Next I guess I'll regear
