t19 transfer case

i have as my username says an 86 f250 xlt 4x4 i pulled the transmission and transfer case from my parts truck and they are both now installed on my dd and the only problem i am having right now is speedo not working properly i checked the speedo cable gears they match and i even switched the speedo cables out and still having troubles so im guessing its something inside the transfer case.... i was wondering if anyone knew what else could cause speedo problems inside the transfer case?... i have the transfer case that was in my truck but on it says its from an 89 f250 and the gear selector valve is above the pivot instead of below it... i was wondering if i the internals were the same if i needed parts for the one thats in the truck right now... and just for som fyi i only switched the t-case because the atf had so much water in it that after i pulled it it has the consistancy of strawberry yogurt and it was always a b*&^h to select 2 or 4 wheel

and so you guys know the speedo is way off and it jumps around ALOT!

Sounds to me like a broken speedometer cable.

Is the gear in the TC stripped or cracked? With the cable out of the TC can you reach in there and turn the gear with your finger or a small screwdriver?

Any tight kinks or bends in the speedo cable?

Have you ever lubricated the cable?
