A while back I posted about having a ZF without a speedo cable hole for my 89 which I hope to install in place of the C6 this spring. Since the ZF I have is for a late model with an electronic speedo I have no place to install my speedo cable. When I posted this question a few weeks ago someone stated to use a transfer case with a speedo cable hole. Now I am not up on transfer cases so I do not know if there are any transfer cases with speedo cable mountings in them.
So is there a transfer case out there that I can mount my speedo cable in and maintain my speedo in my 89 with out getting a different trans? If there is a case out there please explain in detail what it is out of so I know what to look for.
I am not sure about newer transfer cases but all of the older ones that I know of have the speedometer drive in them. NP205's and 208's have them for sure that I know of. I would assume any year ford truck that had a cable driven speedometer with 4 wheel drive would have a transfer case that would work.
Well I just looked at my transfer case and the speedo cable is mounted in the back of it. I will assume all 4X4 trucks are this way since the tail shaft is different from a 4X2 to a 4X4 tail shaft.
I had assumed that I could not use my transfer case based on what a person had told me. He even said he worked in a tranny shop. This was some one from ebay and he had a shifter I needed for my ZF.
This will teach me for not looking at my current set up first. I am not sure why no one pointed this out in my first post.
