Basically, I am doing what most people do with their 75', I'm looking for a 78-79' 4x4 steering box, so that I can convert my to power steering. I'd appreciate some options to compare prices. thanks.

Locating one in a junk yard in good condition might be difficult. They could be either good to worn out, then its rebuild time. I have seen them by themselves go for 25 to 50 (my JY in in the midwest).
Ever hear of a company called "Redhead"? They are mentioned all the time on here with pretty good results. Maybe a little $$ but you are getting a brand new rebuilt steering box sent to your door.
I notice today my rag joint (steering coupler) wiggles when turning, tried tightening the nut on it but it still wiggles. My u joint on my shaft near the firewall wiggles a little but not bad.
I think I am just going to carry back this new gear box and use the money from it and buy a steering column....Summit Racing has some for sale for $239+

These guys are friendly too! I stopped-in last week to buy a new steering gears set for my project '73 F250. I told him what I wanted, he walked over and pulled the box off the shelf, walked me to a friendly lady who happily took my money, and they sent me on my way. Family atmosphere for sure, which I liked. I hope to get the old gears off the truck this weekend, and will take the core back next week.
Well I don't think my gear box is the culprit now. I can turn my wheel left and right just a little and the shaft will move (rag joint wiggles while doin it)
Unfortunately, I need to go a little cheaper at the moment. I would love to get one from them, eventually. The other question that I have is this: Since I have a 75' F250 4x4, does the steering gear that I get from a 78-79' does it have to be from a 4x4 as well and will it be a 3 or 4 hole bolt on box? Thanks to any imput. Shane
