I put a 78 400 engine in my 70 F250, c6 trans from a 78 Merc,Had my 2 part driveshft shortened to fit. Now it hits the bottom of the bed when i take off. and the angle is off. Also now have something hitting inside the bell housing from when i tried using a 1 piece driveshaft that was bent. The trans I bolted to the 390 C6 Trans mount, then to the crossmember. Seems to high. How can i fix it right. Thank you
Hmm, wonder how your carrier bearing could allow the shaft to get to the bed?? The front shaft should be level with the chassis(straight out of the transmission back to carrier bearing). It then drops down to rearend.
yes, Engine and trans are level. But, with this C6 has the longer tail shaft and the way I had to mount itseems high. I did have the front drive shaft cut, seems lik and inch to much. Would that cause it to jump and hit the bed hard?
The back of tranny has companion flange, correct? This is solid with rear of transmission an the carrier bearing mounts to crossmember, so that length is non-adjustable. The only variance can be the back half which has the slip yoke going to rearend.
thats right, Only thing I can see is the rear shaft is at more of an angle. I had the transmission mount crossmember mounted below the frame before, Worked fine except, then the engine at such an angle, the fan hit the top radiator hose and tore it up.So I put it back where it belonged. now. back to same trouble, only about 1/2 inch of clearance between the bed and front u-joint, so when you talk off at a bit power, it hits.
also now I have a tinny soundinside the Bell housing at times.Just couldn't see what even when i removed the starter. Sounds like the flywheel hitting. I still have more things to fix like wiring the rear fuel tank to the gauge, and rewire the trailer lights, Since When I first bought the truck 30 years back, it was a half ton, I later switched to a 3/4 ton frame with the saddle tank, and messed up wiring. Thanks for your response to my mess
