hate to make these posts without doing research but im in a bind with limited time and leaving the girlfriend 1500 miles away for 2 months with the escape as her car... so for the facts... its a 2008 escape 4 wd 4 cyl build date 2/08 with 62500 miles on it..... the tranny/ac condenser is all one unit and it is leaking tranny fluid on the passenger side.... id love to fix it properly and all by getting a new ac condenser but i am moving 1500 miles away on sat and all the autopart stores are on back order for the condensor/at cooler... so the question i guess is can i get an aftermarket at cooler and slap it on the radiator and be fine with doing that? she will be moving 2 months down the road and want to make sure this will be fine because i will not be with her when she drives over here and want to make sure there wont be any negative effects of doing this... yes i know its a little half assed i guess but i will not be around to do the proper repair and just dont want to spend 1k for a shop to fix it if i can get by with a universal unit from the store... thanks guys

You might want to check on a recall as My boss's 2008 had the same issue and they fixed it for free it was a problem I think but I would check any way....................
well i rememberd i knew someone at a ford parts supplier and got a new condenser for cost so i just went that way... very easy install... 1.5 hrs and the only difference i knoticed eith the ''hopefully new and improved one'' was that theres a rubber gromit on the passenger side were it bolts on.... i let out the r134 to do this and am continplating to take it to a shop to have it flushed or just buy a big bollte and fill it up myself live i have in the past on older vehicles.... my only concern is the condenser may not be totally clean from being manufactured

I've fiddled with the older AC systems in the past also. As I remember, the old freon can't be purchased in bulk anymore. The newer freon, I'm unsure but you have to add the proper amount of the special oil also.
Being an 08 and you didnt evacuate properly, go got a new accumulator/filter. Think of it like an oil filter that also pulls moisture from the air. It has dessicant in it. Then it will need to be sucked down before you can put the freon in anyway.
