I have AC in my truck and it hasn't worked since I bought the truck and I don't plan on fixing it. I do however need a massive tranny cooler. Has anyone heard of or used their AC condenser as a tranny cooler. It looks lie it would do the job better than anything I've seen. The tubing is about the same size. On a tranny cooler do you eliminate the radiator totally or run throught both? If I only ran through the cooler my water would get cooler but I don't know if it would be effective for my tranny.
Never heard of anyone doing that. If you do it, be real sure that condenser is clean inside. If your A/C quit because of the Black Death, you could have all sorts of crud migrating into your trans when the condenser gets hot.
About the cooler question, a secondary oil to air cooler still has the oil to water cooler in the radiator hooked in series.
Which should be last in the path is a big discussion and often leads to a big argument. A Cold climate with the air cooler last can make the trans stay really cold a long time, not good. Having the air cooler first allows excess heat to dissipate, but when cold allows the radiator to reheat to a reasonable temp.
In a hot climate, trans oil warm up is not a problem, then having the air cooler after the radiator one is best. It allows better trans cooling under hot temps.
It works great i did it to my truck just flush the ac cooler really good with tranny fluid a couple times the only draw back i found is the engine radiator runs alittle hotter so I installed 2 electric fans in front of the ac cooler and if you go off-road watch out for debri hitting the cooler and producing a nice hole then there will be problems
