Ok, the one i can swap out has different lenght outputs, one that goes to the rear drive shaft. Can i just swap it out??? What am i looking at? Also when the vehicle is decelerating with the tranny in gear i can hear it will jar the truck with a pop. Also in reverse it makes a gringing sound!. Im assuming the transfer case is to blame cause the 4x4 dont work. My u-joints are tight. Any ideas?

Grinding on decel could be a bad pinion bearing or loose pinion nut letting the gear wander back and forth between accel and decel. Pull the diff cover and take a peek, see if the gears look allright. With the wheels on the ground and the driveshaft removed, see if the pinion yoke is loose. You can tighten the nut but don't get it too tight, even though its a big nut you just want to cut down on the backlash. If you reef it down you'll cook the pinion bearings. I usually snug it with a 3/8 ratchet if its loose and then back it off 1 flat. The book will have the correct sequence including a new crush washer.

On decel with hold back on the manual it could also be the pilot bearing walked out of the crank....mine did this and noised on decel......don't know why no sound on accel ....
