Plowed all night and day and a couple times I noticed water sizziling on the topside of hood of this 11' 6.7 PSD. Called Ford today they say a hood insul. panel not listed in parts breakdown for this truck. Anybody else notice this issue any paint probs out there????
Water actually sizzling or just melting on the hood? I wouldn't imagine the hood should be hot enough to almost boil water. The snow should melt on the hood but still be cold water, not hot enough to sizzle off the hood.
The only part of the truck that gets hot enough to boil water is the exhaust header and tailpipe. Hood insulation or not, nothing on top of the motor even gets close to being that hot. Water and oil temps barely reach 210 F unless it's a really long grade with a heavy trailer.
And, I don't think any of us have a liner on the underside of the hood.
Talking about water audibly melting off the hood. What are the SS flex pipes right under the hood part of the EGR system? While inspecting today I found the adhesive between frame work and hood panel is dried, cracked and hard, near the outside this stuff still has elasticity.
I'd imagine it's not there for a reason... Might rest against something hot and burn or cause issues if it's not meant to be there. Haven't any issues with mine, but I guess it isn't on any of the diesel models...
