Alright so I've got an 84 ford F150, straight 6 300Ci 4.9l. Feedback carter YF carb, and original ignition system which was computer controlled advance. ( No vac advance)
I've only had the truck for 2 months now, and I've been slowly fixing all of the problems and now i'm to the point where i need to handle the ignition, it runs at base timing only because it won't advance, the previous owner "desmogged" it.
I want to swap my dizzy out for a DS2, I've been doing some reading on this and I've seen allot of talk about people using GM HEI ignition modules? If anybody could point me in the right direction as to which distributor i need id appreciate it.
The last couple of weeks have been hell for me, between losing a family member and my mother wrecking her 06 ranger. I've been really busy and really stressed and letting all of my own problems just slip by. So being able to at least fix the ignition on my truck would take a load off my mind, and I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks.
You can use a DSII distributor with the GM module taking the place of the Duraspark control module. You'll get varying opinions on this setup, so I won't bore you with mine.

Sorry to hear of the personal problems... hope they get better!
Go to the top of the page and use the "search" feature and type in Duraspark conversion. This has been often discussed and will be very helpful.
I'm having trouble finding out where i can pikcup a duraspark 2 distributor. A local parts store, autozone, carrys three different distributors for this truck , one of them having a vac advance. Would i be able to use this dizzy? I'm not dedicated to the duraspark 2 idea yet
Forget the HEI, a DSII module is literally plug and play. Unplug two connectors, plug the DSII module and dizzy in, and go. It's just too easy to bother dicking with anything else. You can probably find the whole kit and kaboodle at a yard for less than 50 bucks.
I've got the dizzy i need, bought one "new" for 40$ through autozone. Now i just need to find the wiring harness, any advice? If there's a diagram anywhere on how to wire this up myself that would work too.
As for the carb, I'm going to do what i can to run this feedback carb until I'm ready to swap it. It's been rebuilt so it's at least got that going for it. The reason i want to wait is because i plan on finding the right size holley 2/ 4 barrel and buying an offy DP intake.
After that the next and final (hopefully) engine mod will be a header and new exhaust the whole way back.
Check the sticky's at the top of the forum, or the 80-86 forum. There should be wiring diagrams for the DSII and have been told the plugs are available from NAPA. And I have heard there is a way to remove the solenoids from the feedback carb so it will run without the computer but haven't ever checked into it.
The plugs/harness/module from any DSII vehicle will work - so the junkyard might be your best bet. Napa might sell the pigtails. Or you could get some Weatherpak/Deutsch connectors and wire it yourself. Do a search, I know someone has posted the diagram before.
Yeah i just need the diagram, this might sound strange to yall but i was going to cut the pigtail off from the dizzy (with enough wire to reuse if needed) and make my own pigtail. I'm an airframe technician and I've got allot of old left over airplane wiring / hardware, specifically a box full of matched female/male ends.
I like to fabricate/ rebuild as many of my own parts as i can, just my personal preference.
