hi my name is Eli and i have a 1971 f100 with a 302 v8. i have replaced the cam shaft to keep the truck running but did not go for the full rebuild in hopes that i could find a better motor. i recently purchased a 390 w/ trans from a 61' ford galaxie with 46,000 original miles and am going to pick it up in about a week... wanted to know if the engine mounts will line up or if there is a kit available for that particular swap. am pretty inexperienced but am learning as i go-any advice, pointers or directions is much appreciated! thank you in advance!Eli
A couple things, grab a set of perches from any size 73-76 pickup that had a 360/390. 65-76 will fit but you may want to have power steering one day and the later drivers side is different to accommodate the gear.
The other, you need to get the shift arm from a truck C6 and swap it with the car arm before you install. The car arm hangs down like 45º while the truck arm runs more level when in PARK.
so just getting fifty years of dirt and grease off the engine, starting to re paint some ford blue. But before i install, I was thinking 4 barrel carb? Beafy cam? I'd like to have some power and I want it to sound mean! My buddy told me they make some cam shafts that will make it growl! any thoughts?
Make sure the truck motor mounts bolt to the motor. There are no bosses for the mount to bolt into on the earlier blocks. It could be tough to bolt mounts to everything.

Unless you are going to do a complete rebuild leave the cams for the time that you do. Adding a 4 barrel can have some benefit, cap it off at 600 cfms, 500 probably better, the engine cant handle the gas unless wot and you don't drive at wot. Headers & turbo mufflers can deliver sound.
Remember you have a small V8 in a 4,000lb truck, you can't get but so much power from it.
