Truck build/ customization thread
I was able to get the roll bar for 20 dollars! Now I need to sand blast it and paint it.

This thing looks sweet with a roll bar!

This is what I'm talking about with it nedding to be lengthed. What would you guys do?

Well here's the skinny on the latest. I've had some ups and downs with the truck. I go out and check my oil and coolant about once or twice a week. Well about a week after I got the truck finshed I went out and checked stuff and I saw coolant on my timing cover. Ends up part of my timing cover is cracked. So I figured that was why my coolant was low but when I checked my oil my heart sank. There was a little bit of white on my dipstick.
So I went to work stressing the whole way there and the whole time I was at work that I had a blown head gasket. But what was eating at me was in my experiances with a blown head gasket the whole dip stuck is a white milky mess. Well I also had a bit of an oil leak at the back of my manifold. I had some home with that. Maybe just maybe that's why there was some antifreeze in my oil.
I pulled my manifold off and sure enough the gasket was messed up. It was my error from when I installed it. So on went new gaskets and vola fixed! Few days pass with no problems then when I was going to work all of the sudden I got a horrible poping sound out of my carb.
After work I pulled it in and I ended up having a rocker loose. Woot! Easy fix. Well then the next day after work I go out and try to start my truck and it wouldn't start and barely turned over. Ends up my power steering pump locked up.
After I took it off the truck ran better then ever I guess it had been going bad for a while. She's ran great since then till yesterday. When I went to leave work it wouldn't start went through the paces and checked fuel air spark. Well I had no spark.
First I checked if the coil was getting power and grounded the coil wire. Nothing happend. I then ran a wire from the battery to the + side of the coil. Still nothing. Then I hooked a test light up and I got a light when I had it grounded to the coil and the block. Cranked and the light stayed on. So I figured then that it was probably then brain box but wasn't for sure.
My dad owns a wrecker so while I was home sick from school today he hauled it home from work for me. Ended up being the brain box.
Now on to some good news!
Luckily my next door neighbor needed a 302 block so he bought my block and rotating assembly from my old engine which helped me out. Then I got some free mufflers from my dad! We had a 1985 monte carlo that had some Flowmaster 40's on it that we had taken off then forgot about. Well the car is long gone but the mufflers where still in the garage.
Originally when the exhaust was on the monte it was welded up and the welds looked like bird crap. Well the mufflers had about 2 feet of twisty curvy pipe on both sides so the sides that had the pipe that went over the axle I cut that side to where the pipes where now "turn downs" then on the inlet side the pipes where curved and I then cut the inlet to the muffler about 1/8th of an inch back from the weld to get both pipes out. Then I cut about a foot straight section out of the extra pipe and welded it up to the muffler.
It works pretty good and my welds actually don't look bad. I was concerned it would burn through because I was using a mig welder that wasn't set up for aluminum. So I set it to low power turned my heat down to right about 16 and my wire speed to right above 30. Then I went and tacked the pipe all the way around to keep the heat down and just kept tacking till it was solid. Once I get some headers these bad boys are going on! I slid them on just to hear it man do they sound good!
Have pictures up later.

Well I had started out with both mufflers with a bunch of bends. I then sat there an thought to myself how to do this. So first I took the bends down to shorter and made one in to a turn down.

I then started to cut about a 1/4 of inch back behind the weld that way I still had most of my inlet and I could slid both parts out.

After I got the piece off I took the grinder to get it as flush as possible that way I had a level surface to weld on and to look better.

I then took the big sections I had left over to cut straight sections out. I left them a little long about a foot that way I could put them on my current exhaust and when I get my headers and new pipe I could cut the bent section off.

I then took the weld and start to tack weld all the way around.

The set up works good for me and I don't think my welds look to bad.
I would definately redo that weld. Maybe practice on some scrap peices of exhaust tubing to dial in your voltage. Your voltage looks to me like is down way to low and your not getting good penetration on your weld, instead it looks like your just globbing tacks together. I just put a flowmaster on my brothers s10 the other day, kept my voltage up high and did about 1" beads all the way around to keep from burning through. That weld looks like it will crack once it gets up under your truck. Just trying to give some advice. Good luck

yeah turn up the voltage and just practice on some scrap until you figure it out. Youd hate to be driving down the road and have your muffler fall out from under your truck. On second thought that would probably be a really funny story.
Lol actually now that you mention it when I first bought the truck the exhaust was rotted and a muffler fell off on the drive home.
