Catalytic converter advice

So I need a new cat on my '96 F150 4x4 with the 4.9. I have priced a few online, but wonder if anyone has some input on which one to go with.

I saw the Dynomax exact fit on Summit's website for about $450. Anyone have any experience with it? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for any info you can give.

This forum rocks, BTW.

I would assume the magnaflow is not a high flow cat though?

IF I were ever to throw a cat back on a vehicle i own, I would definately get a high flow one, regardless the engine size.

The dynomax is a direct fit, from the exhaust manifolds down to the joint after the cat. Basically the factory piece.

The computer was giving me a catalyst code, so I had the same guys who diagnosed my miss problem double check. Sure enough, that is what I need.

My concern on the magnaflow, at that price, is it going to last more than a year or two? The oem cat is what I am replacing. At 220,000 miles and 16 years later, I don't want to get something that I need to replace again in a year or two. Hence not buying from Oreilly or autozone.

@ Kemicalburns, have you used one of the magnaflow units, and if so, any problems?

Thanks, guys.

i am running a magnaflow hi flow cat currently in my custom exhaust with no issues. the exhaust shop only charged me $60 for it.

the stock ford cats are only supposed to last 100k miles not 200k so you are way past due on those.

go to a reputable exhaust shop and see what they can do for you. i bet the price will be far better. My system cost me $350 and that included a brand new mandrel bent y pipe, the cat and 3" exhaust from y pip out past rear diff. I already had the hooker aerochamber muffler

Thanks for the information. I'll order the magnaflow and give it a try.

I'll do the fab myself. I plan on running a high flow muffler and 2.5" mandrel bent tube. Going to turn it out in front of the rear tire.

Thanks again for the information. I'll let you know how it turns out. (no pun intended).
