hi all. im posting this for a friend/co-worker who own a 96 ranger 2.3l, 2wd, 5sp with the dual ignition crap and lots and lots of miles. he tells me that on the rear coil pack, hes only getting fire out of two plug sockets. hes already replaced it with a known good coil, but with the same results. im familiar with fords, but less with the rangers... any thoughts? thanks guys!
Does he have a lit CEL???? If so, scan the computer for trouble codes & post All code Numbers found, as they can provide good trouble shooting clues.
Does he have B+ 12 volts to both coils in the troubled coilpack with the key in the run position???? If so & you know for sure the coilpack is ok, suspect the ground return wires back to the computer, any electrical connections on the way back, or the computers ground switching drivers for that coilpack, or the dual vane crank sensor if that model has it & you have a trouble code for the crank sensor.
Some thoughts for pondering, let us know how it goes.
