Arrow 89 Ranger Ignition Problems, no spark

Hey fellas. I really need your help here. My truck has been sitting for entirely too long. Even for a FORD ! I haven't been able to start it for a month now. I can't get a spark from the ignition coils to the plug wires.

It's an 89 Ranger 2.3L EEC-VI DistributorLESS Ignition System. Dual coil packs are both new and working properly. New control module. Fuel pump works perfectly. Have done numerous testing of relays and for shorts. I have extracted the engine codes: 15 and 212

15 is EEC processor ROM test failed.
212 is Loss of Ignition Diagnostic Monitor (IDM) input to ECA/SPOUT circuit grounded

I am not quite positive about the 212 code.
Using my Analog meter the sweeps were in this pattern: II II I II II

As I turn the key the starter cranks the engine, but no spark! I do not believe its the Crank Position Sensor (Or at least i hope not). It is a little difficult to get to it. Besides, it worked fine before: .......
The whole senario started when the secondary igition coil was not firing while the engine was running. I replaced the coil. no change. Then i removed the DIS module to have it tested. It passed the test and i put it back on. I have never been able to start the truck since.

I am using the basic Haynes manual which has been usful to a point. But now i think i need some experiential help.

What are the codes REALLY pointing to ? Do i need a new Electronic Control Assembly?? I would appreciate any well thought out guidence to help fix this truck and get it back on the road.

Thanks, Xoryx

That's what I thought when I was reading the middle of your post. Try taking it out and have it tested at the same place where you took the DIS module. I have this little personal problem with the phrase "It worked before" when it pertains to electrical parts. The next time you turn on a light in the house and the bulb burns out remember that it worked fine the last time!
. I'm sure that you got that. Let us know what you find out about the crank sensor.

I think you are mis-reading the codes, you never get a 2 and 3 digit code from the same PCM. I have the SOP in the tech info post. If you need the pinpoint test fro a code just let me know.

I am having a difficult time understanding what you are talking about. I am new to this electronic stuff when it come to automobiles. So, tell me what is a PCM and an SOP .

I would certianly appreciate your help pinpointing the problem using the codes. I went to the TECH ARTICLES page, but did not find what you were refering to.

Yesterday I tested the Continuity between 3 wires on the adapter plug on the top of the DIS module and the coresponding wires that go to the EEC computer.

the results: Ig/off Ig/On
- gray wire 12.98 14.17
- gy/orange .4 .4
- yel/Lg .4 .6

I'm still testing. I'd like to test the continuity of all the wires ( bot & top) on the DIS module to where they originate to see if there is a short of some kind. Am i waisting my time ? i don't know

please help !

Sorry about that. PCM is the powertrain control module (computer) and SOP is standard operating procedure (procedure). The link in the tech info post is call "pulling the EEC-IV codes, check it out.
