Battery Drain
I've checked amp draw and it's about .36 amps when it should be no more than 50milliamps. I did some research and traced it to the GEM module. When I pull the fuse for the GEM my amp draw drops down to near nothing. I pulled the GEM and there was no sign of corrosion or water leakage.
So, before I went out and found a new module, I called our local dealer and was going to schedule an appointment for them to confirm what I suspected. If I was going to drop the money on a new module, I wanted a second opinion.
When I called the dealer, the guy in the service department asked about my rear wiper. He said they've seen a lot of problems with them not going into park, which will drain the battery. He said to check that first.
My question is, does the GEM control the rear wiper? My rear wiper still works as far as I know so I'm not sure that's the problem. I'm hoping it is as it will be a lot cheaper fix....
Thanks,
JEV
The Generic Electronic Module (GEM) is found on Ford vehicles and is basically a Body Control Computer. It controls many of the following functions on most Ford vehicles:
•Warning chimes and warning lamps
•One-touch down driver's side window
•Daytime Running Lamps
•Heated rear window
•Windshield washers and wipers
•Battery saver
•Remote keyless entry
•Illuminated entry with remote keyless entry
•Interior lighting
•Perimeter anti-theft
•Four-wheel drive
The GEM is bolted to the back of the fuse box.
Sometimes though the fuse box gets water in it and causes the same problems too.
