What will the coolant filter and blue spring mod do?
Coolant filter helps take out the particulates that are associated with clogging of other systems. It's a cheap mod, I'm not totally sold on it as being a must do, but it's cheap so what's the harm.
The blue spring mod has to do with fuel pressure and providing good stable pressure. There is a dead heading issue that relates to the last 2 injectors having the potential of being starved for fuel. Best way to eliminate it in my estimation is a Fuel Regulated Return kit, but it is somewhat pricey. A cheap alternative is the fuel cross over, but it doesn't eliminate the dead-heading, but it helps.
Interesting thread so ill chime in and give my op. I feel the coolant filter is a must have especially if your keeping the egr system. I have a friend that has a cat delete and just unbolts the strait pipe and puts the cat back in when he goes in for testing. Also he is able to pass emissions with flying colors with an egr delete. Some people put the egr back in and plug it in after they delete the cooler. This does makes the system look functional at a glance with the egr in its proper place and plugged in. As far as federal trouble I personally wouldn't sleep with one eye open if you know what I mean. I do not know enough about the egr system to give any good advice but I can tell you that I do trust what Blade says from the hundreds of posts I have read and the immense amount of help he has given me throughout all the battles I have gone through lately. That is not to take anything away from Tex as I have not had the pleasure of allot of his posts. I choose to do a egr delete kit from sinister simply because I did not like the fact that all the junk was being rerouted back through my intake. If you choose to do an egr delete just make sure to keep the unit plugged in whether its in the hole or not. Good luck on your decision. If MPG is the concern I would tune imo keep tires inflated drive with a light foot, keep oil and filters clean and changed. Smaller tires will help aswell.

Actually, it helps out the oil cooler first. The oil cooler is the one that clogs and then that causes the EGR cooler to go to crap. There is a wrong association with the EGR system being the primary root of the issue, when in fact it's the oil cooler. Now you can have cases that were caused by the EGR and only the EGR, but I have yet to personally know of one, but I have heard of other people mention them.

That's true, a lot of that just depends on how risk adverse you are. However, if you think that emissions standards and checks aren't going to get "worse" even in the near term, that isn't a vision that I would subscribe to. It has become even worse here for diesel owners and that's even for ones that are exempt due to weight.
I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I can't afford to do something like that and have to deal with what I would have to do if I was the unlucky one that gets caught doing crap like that. Especially considering when their are things that you can do that cost you zilch to do that can exponentially reduce your odds of being a 6.0 statistic as far as damages.
I know it won't matter if it it became an issue in N. MS, but I just bought the truck and the delete was already done. On my list of upgrades is the blue spring and coolant filter. ARP studs also since I have 203k and all original.
I had an injector stick open so we're changing the dummy plug and the GP harness at the same time. 4 weeks ago I knew very little about diesels but thanks to FTE I can sound sort of smart. Thanks for all the advice.
