67' F350 change questions
Just purchased a 67' F350 crew cab and am doing a conversion on it so have some questions:
Here is what I know so far... L&L has the engine conversion kit from 360 to 460... Now though I have a 2wd and converting to 4x4 with 17" lift and 44" tires...yea , yea it will be crazy but thats the point...
So, now to put the C6 auto up to the 460 will a 67-79 trans cross member work or? I also have a donor 85' F350 4x4 crew cab... has the 460, C6 and transfer case etc..etc.. What steering column will I need to get a 67-79 auto or (dont want the floor shifter)?
On the steering what gear box will work to convert to power steering? I have heard the 2wd 67' F350 is totally different than the 4x4 even where the gear box mounts?
Now for the front Im thinking of using the 85' F350 leafs to set up the 67' would this work *havent measured etc yet*
all the questions
Thanks for any info...
Todd

That's a beautiful and rare truck. While I can't answer many of your questions, yes, the stock tranny crossmember will work fine. Yes, the steering systems between 4x2 and 4x4 look like they came from different worlds. You'll still have to use the floor shifter for the transfer case.
I'd hate to see such a rare truck go under the axe, but you can't buy up all the trucks in the world and preserve them...

As far as the steering goes, just like Rick said, they're totally different. 4wd has the steering linkage in front of the axle, 2wd has the linkage on the rear side of the beams.
Same goes for the steering boxes.
If you want power steering and not power assisted steering, I think (not positive) that you are going to have to go with a late 70's box, and steering column.
I think that on the 85 F350's(4x4), that the leaf spring frame mounts have the shackles mounted at the front of the vehicle. Not really a good setup, steering feels awkward. You will want to have the shackles at the rear of the spring pack.
My question for you is:
What is wrong with the 85's frame and suspension?
If the frame and suspension are alright, why don't you put the body of the 67 on top of the 85's frame?

67' F350 change questions
I know the 67' frame is narrower than the 85' so would half to move mounts... but maybe that is easier. That might be the way to go just move the body, which Im open too just not sure if that is the right way to go... The 67' is actually a 3/4 ton so the info says and the 85' is a 1 ton so I would like to move the body but will it fit length etc? Havent checked wheelbase and all that yet...
The 85' is pretty much trashed body wise the bed is totally hosed and the interior pieces are all hosed but all the frame/running gear is good...so was just cheaper to get the 67'

Nice looking truck.
My thinking is that it would be a LOT easier to swap over the body than to build a new suspension.
I actually would like to see one of these lowered.
I haven't come across one yet.
I'd do it, but all of the crews up here are so rusted out, most aren't worth the drive to look at them.
