73-79 is virtually the same. However, pay attention to running gear. F100-F150-F250-F350 as crossmembers are different etc.

Also keep in mind, by law the VIN follows the frame, NOT the cab.

I did a body swap on my '79 F-100. I never checked the old 2wd frame, but I scrubbed the heck out of my new 4wd frame until it was shiny and never saw a vin stamped anywhere and I spent two days looking for it. Where exactly is it supposed to be?

vin on the frame is on the top of the passenger side rail. Mine is almost directly above my front axle

Between the core support and firewall and again under the cab.

Yup, that's what I thought. My frame isn't stamped. Two days with a wire wheel hunting for a number. There's nothing there. I had the body off the frame with the engine out when I was looking, so it's not like my view was obscured by anything. I also took the engine frame stands off and looked under there as well.

So I guess my vin and title go with my body then.

I dunno, looks like you could scrub it some more. Ford was required to stamp the vins on the frame, and they stamped them in two places...
