EO4D 1991 XLT Lariat Problem under acceleration
The EO4D has been shifting quite hard up/down. In addition, it has been 'jumping out of gear' or 'momentarily trying to shift' or something special while under acceleration.
This symptom is increasing in frequency.
I thought it might be an overdrive issue but it is now evident while keeping it in 3rd gear at highway speed via the OD on/off dashboard switch.
I have not noticed the dashboard switch light flickering...a failing speed sensor causes far more dramatic shifting issues...
I believe this poor old gal is joining the chorus of all-things-female, telling me it doesn't appreciate being neglected, needs more quality time, would like some more exercise and needs a little freshening up.
Before I take it in for a cleaning of my wallet, a search for error codes and the like...your thoughts?
Thanks!
A buddy of mine says the elements of the transmission are hardening with inactivity...that I should drop some auto trans fluid conditioner in there to soften up the rubber elements - sounds dangerous and dumb.
Also a fluid and filter change might do her good, pull pan and clean it and also drain torque converter, if you do decide on doing that.
