93 F150 4X4, 300cu, Automatic, everything stock. Sometimes my truck wants to stay in first gear. Sticks there even when I'm at 20 mhp. I let off the gas and it shifts to second. Sometimes when shifting from second to third, it shifts into nothing, like it's in neutral. I'm driving along and the engine revs but no shift. When this happeneds, I can manually shift it into second and it drops right back into second no problem. Drive for a second or two and then manually shift it into "D", it shifts into 3rd just fine. Has even slipped out of third once or twice. Sometimes it all works fine. Fluid level is ok. I put new fluid and filter in it last year around this time. Anyone have an idea? Seems to happen more often when its a cold day, say in the teens. Thanks for you help.
Thanks for the feedback. I did not drain the converter, just dropped the pan, replaced the filter and maybe 5 quarts of fluid. where abouts is the mlps switch? What is it's function? Thanks.
Oh,OK, I know what that is. I replaced that last year for a neutral safety switch problem. You still think that could be it? Just inspect it to see if it is in tact?
