Cam Choice

I'm in the process of rebuilding the 302 on my 94 F150 4X4. I know from browsing this site as a guest, that there's been much written about cam upgrades. I have it narrowed down to two cams, both from Comp Cams:

35-512-8 = 258 int/264 ex Adv Dur (206/212 @ 050); .480/.480 lift
35-349-8 = 264 int/270 ex Adv Dur (212/218 @ 050); .512/.512 lift

As mentioned, I'm running the 302. It's getting bored .040 over. The exhaust will be either true dual with long tube headers or SIDO with shorty headers and a 1 1/2 inch Y-Pipe. Either system will have high flow cats. Other than those couple of things and the cam, the rest will be pretty much stock. I plan to do a spring upgrade on the heads to match the cam as I don't really want to trust a cam upgrade to valve springs with 135,000 miles on them.

As far as truck use: The truck will be a daily driver, so it spends quite a bit of time on the pavement. However, I live out in the country with a lot of gravel and dirt roads that can get pretty nasty on rainy and snowy days. I don't do much towing with it now, but there is the possiblity of more towing down the road.

The reason I posted another thread on cam choice is that both of these cams have been mentioned as a great upgrade to the 302 motor. It's been equal enough that I'm really having a hard time deciding which would work best. The folks at Comp Cams have suggested both. So, I'm looking to see what your opinions would be, especially from those of you who might be running either one of them.

i know the question is going to come up so ill ask now, are you keeping the speed density intake? or are you going to convert it to a MAF intake?
from what i read that will make a difference as to what cams will work effeciently with the truck.

im sure conaski or someone will speak up on the cam choice tho

Was going to mention that but forgot - thanks for the reminder!

I've got one of the lucky 94's that came with MAF from the factory.

I'm gonna suggest the Comp 35-512-8 for any 5.0 truck with 3.55 gears or less that will see towing duty, the 35-349-8 is too soft below 2000rpm and better suited to a lighter truck with more gearing.

Thanks for the advice. The 35-512-8 was the cam that I was originally leaning towards when I first contacted Comp Cams as I was thinking about getting GT-40 heads. When I decided to just stick with the E7's, I contacted Comp Cams again to see if they'd suggest the same cam. The tech said that the 35-512-8 was a good cam but suggested that I also take a look at the the 35-349-8.
