The bumpers on my 78 are not great so I either have to get new or ????
Since its going to be a work/play/DD/show I'm thinking something ranch hand like.

Pics of yours?
I've got a ton of ideas but need to know what you may want to put on it like driving/fog lights, a winch, daytime running lights, recovery points, receiver hitch, tow hooks, full surround, or push bar-ish?
Grinner's a nice setup. I would have put a flat spot on the top so my foot doesn't slip off like it usually does off my contour bumper (OUCH!) or spray/roll the angled top with bedliner to provide some tooth. (Hint!).
Once ya get an idea, I recommend mocking it up using cardboard and masking tape, then spray paint it the color of your choice to get a visual of how it'd look on yer rig. Cardboard is waaaaaay easier to manipulate than 1/8th or 3/16ths plate. Or would you prefer all round tube??
You can't see it in that pic but there is now a 3" or better flat surface on top. I wanted it bigger for obvious reasons but the bumper was going to end up looking like one of those gigantic ones that cost 2000.00. I did not want it to overwhelm the front end. If it had some lift I would probably reconsider.
I was thinking about welding some mesh or D plate to the top but I'm not a big fan of the D plate look.
Made of 3/16 or thicker steel through out, brackets underneath are 1/4" thick. 3" wide step on top is diamond plate. 2" wide lip rolled on bothj tiop and boyyum, I notched it to bring ends up. I cut out and fabbed the LP well. Diamond Plate ain't so much for looks as it is to give your boot's lugs something to grab onto when you walk / step on it and anything skidded on it like in a trailer, tends to ride on top of the diamonds. I have it on top side of my home made rear bumper and as the deck of my utility trailer.

While this is on my '96, the hoop for the plow pump and mounts for the plow headlights were robbed off my '79 when she was retired...A Reese hitch off a parts truck donated the receiver.
