My 99 expy 4.6 V8 has a loud squeal coming from the engine. It started after the PCV elbow fell apart and we fixed it. Then the squealing started, we have changed every pulley from the a/c to the harmonic balancer, power steering you name it. We were told to change the oil out to a high powered synth. oil (filter too), that didn't work. That was before the har. bal. then we were told that the har balancer wobbled and needed to be changed, still squeals. It's not a constant noise but enough to drive you nuts. There are times when you can press on the excel., release and then press again and it will stop momentarily. Now that I am out of $$$ and almost out of hair does anybody have any ideas? There are codes P0171 & 174 along with the two for to lean of gas but those have to do with the pcv.
if it is a constant squeal after start up,or temporary you can remove the serp belt and and start it, this wont hurt it if you only run it for a few minutes that way you can determine if its any of your pullys, belt , etc. if noise goes away, if not , then look for youtr vacuum leak or a whistling pcv, or a exhaust leak, if the studs break, the factory thin tin /steel gaskets vibrate to causing a squeal, if you suspect that you can listen with a long hose to your ear through the wheel well on the exhaust manifold ports
