I've got a squeker.

Hello all,
Just recently, my truck started squeking. The belt is plenty tight. I bought some belt dressing and can get it to stop squeking, until I start it again. I'm thinking idler arm pulley, but I don't understand how it stops after putting the belt dressing on. I've heard that a bar of soap or some wax does a better job than the can of belt dressing. Anyone on here that can point me in the right direction?

There squeekis audible throughout whole rpm band. Louder at higher RPM's, but when driving, it almost stops at higher RPM, then it shifts, loweres RPM and is still present

Maybe just replace the belt(s)? I kept trying to get the squeaks out of my wife's car to no end, and then just replaced all the belts for $20 and they were all gone.

Check the hose between the PCV valve and the upper intake plenum. If the PCV valve is old and oil is being drawn up through the hose, it weakens the hose and the vacuum through it collapses it causing it to "whistle" and sound much like belt noise. At higher RPMS, the hose actually pinches off and the squealing stops but so doe the draw of blowby gasses out of the crankcase.

I know, I know... how do I get to this suggestion from a story about belt noise? I chased what I thought was belt noise for three months before I did an oil change and decided to replace the PCV while I was at it... the hose pulled out and collapsed easily between my fingers and it dawned on me. Replaced the hose and no more squeals. No guarantee you have the same problem but the description sounded very familiar so I figured I'd share.

I will certainly check it out, but the fact that it stops squeeking with belt dressing throws a curveball.

yea! replace the belt most likely cause but pull it off first and spin all pulleys by hand c how they feel noisey, loose. idler and tensioner should not spin freeley should stop after a few turns. look at the tensioner c how the tension feels on it or that its not it comin apart
hope this helps
