tire size help

I have a 01 F250 Crew cab, I bought it used a year ago and its time for new tires the tires on it are 265/75/16, I was looking for tires prices on the internet and realized the stock tire size is 235/85/16. What should I go with, should i go back to the original or stick with the size that has been on there, what are the pros and cons of both? THANK YOU

My 04' came with 235/85R16 E tires. I didn't really like them. The ride was horrible and bumps would throw me around even at reduced air pressures.

Depending on how your truck was ordered back then you got either 235/85R16 E or 265/75R16 E tires with 16" wheels. Both tires are approximately the same diameter but the 235/85 is roughly one inch narrower than the 265/75.

I have 285/75R16s on my truck now and really like them but they are over 1" in diameter larger than either the 265 or 235 and more expensive to boot. I would go with the 265/75R16 because I prefer the slightly wider overall width, higher void amount and wider tread width. Plus they just look better than the skinny 235s. There are also more tire choices in the 265/75 size than the 235/85. Price wise both the 265 and 235 will be in the same ballpark.

Thanks, I agree the wider tires look a lot better to, I was only considering the other tires because maybe I might get a little more mpg's with the skinny tire,I'm sure it would be minimal if at all,did you notice any difference?

Thanks

You will get better mpg, a harsher ride, better snow performance. Your contact patch on the ground will be less, and that could affect handling. You may notice 2-4% better mileage but IMO the larger tires are a better option for ride quality and overall performance.

I just put a larger than stock tire on mu truck and wow what a difference. They ride a lot more "solid" and less bouncy and outta control feeling on the highway. Go with the larger size, Ford puts wayyyyyy too small a tire on these trucks I believe.
