Coolant Test Really Needed
Good Question. On the 7.3 I just added the proper coolant additive every 15 thousand miles. It would be nice if we could do this on the 6.7. Maybe Crazy or our resident Ford tech can answer that question.
Thanks
Sorry, This whole coolant test thing sounds like a severe case of CYA and nickle/dime me to death from Ford. Its great for motor heads who like to tinker with their stuff constantly, but seems frick'in rediculuos given today's technology.
There I said it. I'm thinking I'll just hold the OK button down and dump the coolant when recommended unless someone can post something that indicates that this is nothing more than a science experiment and is truly needed.

The simple procedure checks your coolant for Nitrile contamination, %glycol and the corrosion inhibitor concentration. Maybe no need to check it every time the warning comes up but I would at least once in a while. Could save you some money down the road.......
My check coolant additive message came on last week. I already had strips for everything except the corrosion inhibitor test.
I called the dealer that I bought my truck from and the service manager said to just reset the message and not worry about it. I asked him if he was sure. He put me on hold and then came back a few minutes later. He claimed he asked the diesel mechanic, which I don't believe, and he said the same.
So I then called a different dealer on the other side of town. He said to bring it in and they would test it. He said the labor is covered under warranty and only needed product would be extra. I took it in to them. They did a great job explaining what they were going to do, how they were going to do it, and then showed me the results for each coolant system test. The main engine coolant showed low on the inhibitor and they recommended the VC-12 additive. The EGR coolant system tested within limits and nothing had to be done. So they ended up charging $15.00 for adding the VC-12, retesting, and then out the door. I was very pleased with this dealer.
