I know this is dumb, but I am trying to get my heater working & here is my problem, on the heater valve under the hood when you put the heater on hot - warm, should it be closed, or open, this is my first old truck, but I have to trace down where my cable is loose. I bought a couple of extra lock tabs & I never got around to getting my heater fixed. I just have trouble laying under the dash for more than a few short minutes. I have owned a lot of 60's muscle cars, but never a truck this old even though it's younger than me. I need to buy some books, because I haven't been able to work since 06 & I forget more everyday, so if anyone could pm me I would really appreciate it, thanks.

The 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com for about 22 bucks, and...
C3UZ-18495-A .. Cable Controlled Heater Water Valve (Motorcraft YG-133) / Available from Ford.
This heater water valve is notorious for rusting up in the closed/open or partially both positions. It's spliced into the inlet to heater core heater hose.
ok thanks all of you. I guess I need to close the valve, because it's leaking when running I thought that was the answer, but just wanted to be 100% sure. I really appreciate the answers thank you all very much.

yeah I found a valve at advance auto for 15.53 or close to that, it may be stuck because the cable moves , but the valve doesn't, bought a couple of new lock clip just in case. I also bought a used control panel for the dash off ebay, my letters were unreadable ok everyone thanks I will get it straightened out one day
