Heater question
I saw in an old thread that the seals and stuff would work from this kit:
Classic fORD Bronco Replacement Parts, Gaskets and Seals
Seems like a good idea, as the ones around my core were non-existent.
So, while I wait on that, I realized that I have NO IDEA how this thing works. If the fluid is running through the core all the time, I guess that means I can only ever have heat coming through the vents? The thing I don't understand is, why does the **** say, "pull for heat?" If I don't "pull" the ****, how could cold air come through? And what in the world does that cable (attached to the "pull" ****) move inside that box to cause heat?
It seems to me that turning on 'heat' would mean letting coolant run through the heater core, otherwise, if no coolant was flowing in it, it could be cool air coming in.
Sorry if this is dumb, maybe it's just late. Hopefully someone can set me straight.
Well if you look down there it's a gate that closes off the heater box. Open it when you want heat to become part of the fan powered ventilation. Unless it still has all it's bells and whistles it's likely the box is always hot but sealed up. Desire heat, open the gate and the fan will draft it. IIRC the lever also controlled a valve under the hood that controlled water flow through the heater core. Mine has been removed and replaced with a manual T valve that must be actuated from under the hood. I leave it open, to keep the crud(soot from building in the core due to lack of operation)Might also check here,

1) The Deluxe heater has two cables mounted to a bracket to the right of the steering column at the bottom of the dash.
One cable opens/closes the damper door that allows fresh air to enter the plenum chamber (heater box).
The other cable opens/closes the heater water valve (C3UZ18495A/Motorcraft YG133). This valve is spliced into the inlet-to heater core heater hose.

2) The Economy heater does not have the two cables or a heater water valve.
Instead, there is a manually operated heater water shut-off valve (C5TZ18495A) located in the same place as the Deluxe's heater water valve.
The C3UZ18495A heater water valve is available from Ford.
MSRP: $38.46 // FTE Ford Dealer Parts Dept sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $23.08.
The C5TZ18495A manually operated shut-off valve is obsolete, but can be found NOS at Ford Dealers/obsolete parts vendors.
Too bad it's time's like these I think to myself, "just keep driving with no heat...it's easier."
