back up camera question

does anybody know of any aftermarket radios that include navigation, back up camera input that allow viewing the back up camera while in a forward motion? I have seen a post where someone was able to change a radio that only worked while in reverse to display a camera while in forward motion. But I am not sure how this would be done.

Nothing to do with the headunit manufacturer. Reverse camera inputs have a trigger that trips when the car's in reverse (off the lights or gear shift, etc), just rig a bypass switch to that & activate when you want.

here is what I meant: "Parking Brake Detection: To prevent displaying video while the vehicle is in motion, the green wire in the supplied 16-pin harness must be connected to the vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. While the vehicle is in motion (parking brake off), you can still view all of the other displays and menus."

The DVD video is enabled by the parking brake ground, but the backup camera is enabled by the reverse +12 volts from a tow-package relay (and the camera is usually powered by the B/U lamp voltage). Are you trying to have the video active, or the backup camera? You would need to have a bypass switch to supply 12 volts to the input in the deck AND the power to the camera to see the camera in anything but reverse. This might trigger the backup lamps if the camera power is tied directly to them - this could freak out the driver behind you and cause an incident. You might need to disconnect the wire from the input to the deck, connect it to a bypass switch, then to the deck AND to the camera power, then disconnect the power wire from the B/U lamps to the camera power.

I will not be wiring the back up camera(s) to any other circuit (bu lamps).....i want to wire up to 3 cameras on my 37' camper and possibly 1 more on my truck.....i want to be able to view the main back up camera on my camper while moving forward to keep an eye on the cars behind me. There are to many that drive to close to the bumper. But I also want to be able to keep all cameras on full time when backing into a camping spot, this would be much easier than having the HU switch back and forth during shifting.

My HU switches immediately to the BU camera when I put it in reverse and I have no option to change anything at that point. It sounds like you need a monitor that views all cameras simultaneously on one screen, and that is a whole different thing.

Yea, you'd need a 'multi-plexer' that combines the views...only problem would be monitor size...you'd need a BIG monitor to be able to make out detail.

I am using a kenwood DDx-514 (non nav), with Bluetooth adapter, PAC swi, cheap eBay camera. Have had it for a few years and love it. A few people have told me it is complex to use, but I am used to it. My dislike is that the screen is hard to see with polarized sunglasses on (I live in fl). I use a portable garmin for gps. My camera is good for hooking up the trailer, but can get washed out at night. It is one of the night eyes ones all over eBay, but it was only $25 and has served me well. I could not be happier with the kenwood and it has dual zone for long trips, so the girls can listen to something different in the back while I listen to my music up front. A lot of guys on here like the pioneers. I have owned eclipse, kenwood, alpine, clarion (was in that business for a while), and the kenwood seemed to offer everything I needed. Their new units have a lot of the stuff built in that I had to purchase separately. Hope this helps - but feel free to ask me questions, Mike.
