you should ground the parking brake wire so you can use the navigation in motion (let your passengers watch dvds too). did you get a camera? the reverse light is black/purple stripe under the dash. it was kind of a pain to find with all of the other colored wires back there and its pretty thin. let me know if you need anything else.

ive got an audiovox aca200 wired version. its around $100 and alot better picture than the boyo vtl400 that came free with my h/u. they sell them at best buy if you want one quick instead of ordering one.

when i wired my stereo, i took power from that reverse wire through a diode and then connected it to an upfitter and then to the radio. this way, in reverse or if i flip the switch, the screen thinks im in reverse and switches to camera view. i mounted the boyo on the front for when my girlfriend drives or i need to get really close to something in front.

my cameras are powered key on through a spdt on-on switch and the rca are connected to the camera input through a splitter. i didnt like have to click through video sources so its easier to just flip the upfitter and then use the selector switch if i want to see forward or back.

heres a few pictures of the camera installed.

Audiovox ACA200 Wireless rear-view camera at Crutchfield.com

i cut part of the bracket and put in between the plastic and metal of the bumper with some jb weld. ill need to redo it when i put my 08 bumper on.

the wire was tucked in...

Pete,

Is the Kenwood a 6 disc in dash unit or a single cd unit. How is the Nav on it. I am tossing around the thought of putting in a Indash Nav unit in mine but havent heard too much on the Kenwood vs Pioneer. I was gonna get a 08 Ford one but they have gotten way too expensive. I guess I should have jumped on it when they were 500-700 bucks back when the 08's came out. Is there any hidden things you need to buy when gettin into this mod. I have already added the PIE adapter to my oem deck and upgraded all of my speakers to infinity's front and rear.

Thanks,

Sarge

not pete but i have a kenwood dnx7100 (older model). i chose it because it uses garmin nav software on a hard drive and the comparable pioneer was dvd based navigation, more expensive and didnt seem as functional to me but everyone that has one likes them for the most part.

the only thing you would want is a pac swi for steering wheel control and an ipod cable or adapter depending on what model you get. then theres bluetooth (5120 has this free from crutchfield and traffic add ons as well.)

its a single disc. but if you ask me ill pick Kenwood vs Pioneer any day. i used to fix those on a daily basis, and hated the sound on Pioneers, and still hate them. but thats my opinion. i think Kenwood at this point has less moving parts and nav system its a better design. id like to put Alpine DD unit but they are out of hand with prices now.
HDD based nav system is much faster than DVD and you cant use dvd while using nav on pioneer.
anyways. you have to see what you looking for and pick what you like. dont want to start Kenwood vs Pioneer war here ...

and the only thing you need is a PAC adapter for steering control. wire harness and adapter plate for DD unit...

I have lways been a little partial to the Kenwood products anyway. I could buy a 6 disc changer to put behind the seat. The other question I had was wether or not you could use the steering wheel controls with the Kenwood but I guess you have already answered that for me. So I am aassuming that with this PAC adapter it works just like the factory controls do. Also I have a Siruis One installed in my truck is there anyway it can be wired right to the truck or do I still have to use the PIE, or is there a provision to add or make the Kenwood a Sirius radio and move mine to the wifes 4 Runner.

Sorry for all the questions but I am trying to coer all my basis with this mod.

Thanks Pete,

Sarge

yes they have an antenna and module for sirius to be integrated. i really like it. i think they also make a dock that allows their radios to be controlled by the headunit but then you wouldnt get sirius in your other car.

I guess I would probably just get the module to have the sirius incorporated into the head unit. Just incase it was missed. Does the Steering wheel control harness allow the factory wheel controls to operate the new head unit.

Sarge the PAC will do all what your steering did . or you can reprogram them for diferent options. i dont have one yet. but planing on getting it soon. just picked up a backup camera. waiting for the amplifier and a capacitor to finish my stereo install.
but as far as a gps its done nice. very easy to use and you can change POI and destination while you drive , without any bypas modules. not like pioneer LOL
if you have any questions let me know...
and BTW as far as sirius get a module and have it integrated . thats what ill do...
head unit cost me 425$ on e-bay, had a 15% cupon. and installation is a cake....

So the PAC is not a jumper to allow me to use the steering wheel controls. Essentially they will be obsolete? I am curious to ask what Ebay vendor you used. I was going to buy from crutchfield but they are atleast 300.00 more for the HU than some of the ebay pieces. I guess the main thing is to buy one that is new.

Thanks,
Sarge

I want a 15% off coupon for ebay

I've been eyeballing the dnx5120 and dnx7120 for my 07.

As for the Pioneer vs Kenwood.....I have a Pioneer on my 01 and hate it, but have a lot of friends with Kenwoods and I like them better. As mentioned the Garmin software is very nice and easy to use.

Kenwood and Alpine are my personal preferences for head units.
