I was wonder what Ford used for transfer cases? For example, NP205? What was used in a 1985 model truck? And with the correct adapter, will it go to either a 4spd, 5spd, or AOD trans?
I'm hoping to put one on the rear of my AOD (2wd) (may need a custom adaper or longer output shaft on the trans side? How difficult is that? OR could I be lucky to just get an output shaft extension on the existing?) <MAY a adapter? custom need>and if not, then a manual trans is going in. Thanks
You need a 4WD transmission to use a "married" transfer case (different output shafts used on 4WD trannies, - different spline count, might also be longer) but you can install a "divorced" transfer case if you can find one.
Cases offered in the 7th gens are NP208 and BW1345.. not sure what year the BW1356 showed up to the party, might of been 8th gen? While the NP205 is pretty much bullet proof, the 1.96:1 lo range is weak and leaves a hell of a lot to be desired. You can get aftermarket gears to replace the stockers for lower gearing... which I would recommend.
