clutch pedal went out

My clutch pedal on my 93 f 150 goes straight to the floor and doesn't come back up. The slave cylinder was replaced 8 months ago so I don't think that's the problem but I'm not sure. Anyone elseever have a simliar problem?

Yes, and in my case it turned out to be the master cylinder. The seals on the piston were shot and fluid was getting past, allowing the pedal to move without actuating the slave cylinder.

yeah I was thinking my master cylinder might be shot, I've been having to refill my brake fluid reservoir about twice a month for a while now

Well that fluid went somewhere. Look around to see what's leaking. If you let the fluid get low enough to suck air into the master cyl you may need to bleed it. Also make sure the pedal is still connected to the MC under the dash. If it comes unhooked the pedal will go to the floor and stick there. There is a plastic bushing that keeps them connected, available in the HELP! section at Autozone and other auto parts stores.

I was told if a certain hose is leaking, the master cylinder can burn fluid. Also im pretty sure the pedal is still attatched because it started losing pressure and stopped wrking over a 2 day period

if it is the slave cylinder, how much does it cost to replace it?

Obviously you should bench-bleed the master before installing it. Put it in a vise and push the piston with a big screwdriver.

Slave should cost about $50-$80. It's the installation that's a pain, as I'm sure you're painfully aware- may take all day.

Bleeding the system once it's installed is hard on these. Read the forums for some good suggestions.

After you get the master out, it's pretty easy to take apart and find out if it has bad o-rings, so do that first before you got to the trouble of dropping your tranny.

DING! DING! DING!

Looks like yet another "my cheap-*** made in china after aftermarket slave cylinder failed after only X months!" thread.

I don't know where these things are coming from, but every couple of weeks there is a thread in this forum. Seriously, do a search. There are a ton of them in here.

The solution is to buy a motorcraft slave cylinder. The made in china junk just doesn't last. I think they're $160 or so, they're not terribly expensive... but it sure beats dropping your transmission every 6-8 months to replace another $60 failed one.
